Empowering Local Youth Through Community Support

Empowering Local Youth Through Community Support

At the heart of the Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk Foundation is a mission to serve the children of Avery County—and one of the most impactful ways we do that is through our grant programs. Each year, the Foundation awards funding to local schools, organizations, and community initiatives that align with our core mission: to improve the lives of young people through education, wellness, and opportunity.

Who We support

Our grants are designed to support a wide range of youth-focused efforts, including:

  • Classroom enrichment and educational tools
  • Extracurricular and leadership development programs
  • Youth wellness and food security initiatives
  • School gardens and STEM activities
  • Local 4-H and vocational training programs
  • Civic engagement opportunities like Key Club and youth volunteerism

Whether it’s a class set of books, supplies for a community garden, or travel expenses for a student leadership conference, we believe that small investments can spark big change.

How to Apply

Organizations and educators serving Avery County youth are encouraged to apply for a Kiwanis grant. We accept applications on a rolling basis and review them quarterly. Priority is given to projects that:

  • Directly benefit children and youth
  • Serve under-resourced populations
  • Encourage innovation, leadership, or skill development
  • Demonstrate community involvement or partnerships
